This is a very well-written script, with strong humorous dialogue, clear details, and wild, imaginative ideas that elevate the story from its simple sports comeback premise. The characters are bolstered by their interactions and voices, brimming with personality that make them fun to follow along with. Any scene involving Puddy and Melvin houses a lot of energy and humor between the two long-time friends/partners, their personalities shining through. There is no shortage of over-the-top and creative concepts in this script, so much so that the writer has plenty of toys to play with... From immortal ancestors to a spiritually possessed golf caddy, it's apparent that the writer is enjoying his own project and letting loose with the comedy. The ending resolution is satisfying as Puddy finds a way to help his ancestors, break the curse, and resolve his issues with Micky emotionally and succinctly.

At first, this script reads like a simple sports story, following a disgraced pro athlete's return to the limelight, but there are numerous ideas and elements that help give this project its own identity. The writer clearly has a wild and creative vision, revealing his strengths in crafting solid dialogue, over-the-top humor, and enjoyable scenes. This script could be an approachable and entertaining comedy for older audiences. It is comparable to OLD DADS and THE LONGEST YARD with its shameless humor, potentially fitting in with other films from Happy Madison Productions (Adam Sandler's company). It's estimated to have a medium-sized budget, with some hurdles in the production design, golf scenes, and casting.

Strengths:

This is an entertaining and kaleidoscopic script that successfully blends sports comedy and spoof/parody. The story is very inventive and surprising, and features many effective set pieces. It is compact and fast-paced, and balanced between beginning, middle and end; it never deflates. Events gradually progress toward a rewarding happy ending, and the protagonist Puddy has a clear mission that ties all the events together. The comedic tone is consistent, with many solid laughs throughout the script. There is a good control of the craft, with characters who speak in distinct voices, sharp dialogue and smart use of planting and payoff. The final scene at the tournament, with Puddy's unexpected triumph, feels captivating and cinematic.

Prospects:

The script can be made on a relatively low budget and have a good run in theaters, probably more domestically than abroad, and with a better performance with male audiences. Puddy would be a fun, active and captivating part to play for an actor in his 50s, and there is always a need for protagonist roles in that age range. It's a part that has great comedic potential. Good comps are HAPPY GILMORE, TIN CUP and UNCLE DREW.
